About the Event
The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, June 20th at 6 PM (Doors at 5:30 PM) with a screening of a much-beloved big screen adaptation of a celebrated Harper Lee novel;
“To Kill a Mockingbird” (1962)
--------------------------------------------
This big-screen take on the famed novel is, arguably, the greatest adaptation of a book ever committed to film. In this emotionally-charged movie, lawyer Atticus Finch (played by the legendary Gregory Peck) sets out to defend an African American man against a rape charge in a depression-era Alabama. Much of the film is from the perspective of Atticus’s daughter, Scout (Mary Badham), a precocious youngster whose eyes are quickly opened to the way of the world. It should also be noted that, for all its hefty ambitions, this must-see film is the big-screen acting debut of the great Robert Duvall.
Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also about film history and context; with each of these screenings, we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest for “To Kill a Mockingbird” is TBA.
Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and leave an optional donation. This donation will get you a delicious menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.
On a final note, don’t forget to spread the word about the 2023 Electric Film Series! We have quite the year planned and screenings of this nature are always a grander experience when accompanied by a big, enthusiastic, cinema-loving crowd.
