If adventure has a name, it must be June Squibb! In the irresistible charmer that is “Thelma” a delightful Squibb plays an elderly woman who takes matters into her own hands after falling prey to a dastardly telephone scammer. With her friend Ben (played by the late great Richard Roundtree) by her side and a concerned and altogether thoughtful grandson (played by an affable Fred Hechinger) doing everything he can to locate grandma before she gets into trouble, Thelma scours the city looking to get back what’s rightfully hers. As directed by a gifted Josh Margolin, “Thelma” is structured like a “Mission: Impossible” movie only instead of Tom Cruise leading the charge, it’s a game Squibb anchoring the movie atop her more-than-capable shoulders.
