About the Event

FMASU’s Electric Film Series returns to The Electric Theater on Tuesday, September 16th with a FREE screening of a terrifying early-2000s chiller that will emerge as the perfect title to get you primed for HorrorFest International Film Festival which arrives on September 17th;

“The Ring” (2002) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Based on the creepy Japanese import “Ringu” from 1998, this effective Americanized take on the spooky source material stars Naomi Watts as a reporter who follows a lead revolving around a mysterious videotape that will allegedly cause the untimely death of anyone who watches it after a time span of 7 days. Elaborate hoax or very real urban legend? That’s the question at the heart of this atmospheric and altogether frightening horror show from director Gore Verbinski, a skilled storyteller who would go on to make the likes of “Pirates of the Caribbean” only a couple of years later. Watts is terrific in a film that finds new ways to get under your skin, and it’s all capped off by a horrific finale that you won't soon forget. Bonus points for an outstanding supporting performance by the great Brian Cox and for an unsettling sequence involving a ferry boat and a horse. Don’t let the PG-13 rating fool you. This is freaky stuff and it’s the perfect Electric Film Series screening to lead into the 2025 HorrorFest International Film Festival which opens at The Electric Theater a day later. Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our guest speaker for this screening of “The Ring” is beloved UTU Film Professor, Nate Snow. In addition to years of film education experience under his belt, Mr. Snow counts himself as a huge fan of “The Ring” and in fact, when we asked him if he’d be interested in serving as our speaker for this screening, he made like a horse and jumped at the opportunity. Normally, we’d encourage you to arrive a little early and grab an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion. But since the screening has been moved to 8 PM, we’re inviting guests to enjoy dinner at Riggatti’s beforehand instead. To make it even better, Riggatti’s is offering a special discount for our attendees to use that night at any of their locations by simply mentioning the Electric Film Series sent you. The Electric Film Series is free for the community, but donations are greatly encouraged as every cent raised will go towards covering our 2025 Electric Film Series season. When RSVPing for your FREE Electric Film Series tickets, it will now list a "Donate Your Own Price" option. You're welcome to insert $0 so that the tickets are free of charge but again, we hope you'll consider a donation. Regardless, thank you for your continuous support.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR SCREENING OF "THE RING" WILL START AT 8 PM (DOORS AT 7:30 PM)
