About the Event

FMASU’s Electric Film Series returns to The Electric Theater on August 19th with a FREE screening of a taut thriller from the 90s that would make one of the biggest movie stars on the planet even bigger;

“The Fugitive” (1993)

______________________________________________________________________________

Watching a thriller as expertly made and as skillfully acted as “The Fugitive” might make one wonder how on Earth Harrison Ford only received one Oscar nomination throughout his entire illustrious career. That lone nomination was for his stellar work in Peter Weir’s “Witness” and while that nom was well-deserved, you could also make strong arguments for his performances in “The Mosquito Coast,” “Regarding Henry,” and “Presumed Innocent.” Hell, one could even make an argument for his undeniably charismatic turn as intrepid archeologist, Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Likewise, his portrayal of a wrongfully convicted doctor in the briskly paced “The Fugitive” is so effective and so utterly believable that this could have been a silent film and you would absolutely be convinced of Ford’s innocence for the entire run time. As directed by a skilled Andrew Davis (“Under Siege”), this big screen adaptation of the popular 60’s television series of the same name is an absolute clinic in tension-filled movie making and as great as Ford is in it, this film is also populated by a stunning roster of supporting performances including Joe Pantoliano, Sela Ward, Jeroen Krabbe, Andreas Katsulkas, and of course, an unforgettable Tommy Lee Jones who WOULD go on to win the Oscar beating out a young (and undeniably superb) Leonardo DiCaprio in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.” “The Fugitive” is the ultimate cat-and-mouse thrill ride and nothing beats experiencing it on the big screen.

Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest for “The Fugitive” is a special one indeed and we’re not just saying that because his organization is a proud sponsor of The Electric Film Series. The special guest in question is Bruce Bennett and in addition to being the CEO of St. George Musical Theater, he loves films! In fact, back in the day, Mr. Bennett used to write a movie column for a local newspaper before collaborating with FMASU’s Adam Mast on a review show called Film Fanatics. What’s more, Bruce counts this spectacular film as one of his all time favorites so it’s safe to say, he’ll bring quite a bit of insight to the post screening discussion. All the more reason to attend!

Be sure to arrive at our screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.

The Electric Film Series is free for the community, but donations are greatly encouraged as every cent raised will go towards covering our 2025 Electric Film Series season. When RSVPing for your FREE Electric Film Series tickets, it will now list a "Name Your Own Price" option. You're welcome to insert $0 so that the tickets are free of charge but again, we hope you'll consider a donation.
