About the Event
The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, February 18th with a thrilling journey back to the 30s by way of a FREE screening of a legendary movie that is the very personification of adventure;
“The Adventures of Robin Hood” (1938)
—-------------------------------------------------------
Robin Hood is one of the most famed characters of all time and through the years, there have been many cinematic iterations of his story (versions starring Douglas Fairbanks, Kevin Costner, and Russell Crow among them) but this colorful 1938 swashbuckler starring a charismatic Errol Flynn and a stunning Olivia de Havilland might be the best. “The Adventures of Robin Hood” features Flynn in the title role, a beloved bandit who would famously steal from the rich and give to the poor but that was only but a small part of the story. With a stellar roster of supporting players including the likes of Claude Rains and Basil Rathbone, vibrant costume design, and fittingly romanticized direction by Michael Curtiz (who would go on to collaborate with Flynn a total of 12 times), “The Adventures of Robin Hood” would become the stuff of legend. Come and be part of an iconic motion picture experience that the great Roger Ebert says; “Was made with sublime innocence and breathtaking artistry.”
Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest speaker for "The Adventures of Robin Hood" is actor, director, and voice over extraordinaire, Jason Lewis. Mr. Lewis has done a little of everything including serving as a Marx Brother impersonator at Universal Studios, doing voiceover work as animated versions of some of your favorite superheroes (Superman), and directing stage productions (including Encore!'s rousing take on "Aladdin"), but as it happens, he's also a huge cinephile and has a particular interest in the classics. And yes, he loves Errol Flynn and all things Robin Hood. This, among all else, makes him the perfect special guest speaker during what promises to be an adventurous night at the movies.
Be sure to arrive at our screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.
The Electric Film Series is free for the community, but donations are greatly encouraged as every cent raised will go towards covering our 2025 Electric Film Series season. When RSVPing for your FREE Electric Film Series tickets, it will now list a "Donate Here" option. We hope you'll consider a donation there or in-person at the event. Regardless, thank you for your endless support.
