SUPERMAN (1978) Free Screening - 2023 Electric Film Series

The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, July 18th at 6 PM (Doors at 5:30 PM) with a 45th-anniversary screening of what is arguably the greatest superhero movie of all time

Gifted filmmaker Richard Donner proved that a superhero property could make the jump from the comic book page to the big screen in reverent fashion with “Superman,” a film that’s all-too-appropriate tagline suggested, “You’ll believe a man can fly.” Featuring Marlon Brando as Jor-El and Gene Hackman as the villainous Lex Luther, the title character would be played by a then virtually unknown Christopher Reeve who hits all the right notes as both the man of steal and an oafish but endearing Clark Kent. This patient and altogether spectacular fantasy/adventure film is punctuated by ahead-of-their-time visual effects, breathtaking production design, and an unforgettable John Williams score. It’s easy to forget that “Superman” came out during an era when we didn’t see a new Marvel movie at our local multiplex every other week. And wouldn’t you know it? “Superman” has stood the test of time. Come on out and experience it the way it was meant to be experienced; On the big screen!! Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings, we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest for “Superman” is voice over actor, Jason J. Lewis, a man who knows a thing or two about Supes as he’s brought him to life by way of several “Justice League Action” shorts. Undoubtedly, Mr. Lewis will have plenty to talk about during what will be a very insightful discussion.

Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and leave an optional donation. This donation will get you a delicious menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.
