“Sleepless in Seattle” (1993)
--------------------------------------------
We decided to follow up the hard-hitting emotional powerhouse that was August’s unforgettable screening of “The Elephant Man” with something decidedly lighter in tone. “Sleepless in Seattle” is an irresistible gem starring affable Tom Hanks and lovable Meg Ryan as a pair brought together through the love of a child, the power of radio, and a big dose of old school magic. The adorable motion picture experience that is “Sleepless in Seattle” was brought to life by witty director Nora Ephron, the gifted screenwriter behind “Silkwood” and “When Harry Met Sally.”
In addition to stellar work by Hanks and Ryan, this effortless film coasts along by way of a wonderful sense of humor, a ton of heart, and a top notch soundtrack that includes the likes of Nat King Cole, Jimmy Durante, Harry Connick Jr., Carly Simon, and Celine Dion. This is one you won’t want to miss! It’s essentially The Electric Film Series’ version of date night but even if you want to come to the screening solo, each and every attendee is likely to walk away from this movie smiling.
“Sleepless in Seattle” will include a special guest intro by local acting legends, Barb and Brad Christensen who, in addition to being big fans of this seminal 90’s film, also happen to be love birds in real life! This, in addition to their wonderful on stage (and off) rapport, make this dynamic duo the perfect choice to intro the film as well as lead what is sure to be a lively post-screening discussion.
Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and leave a $10 to $20 donation. That donation will get you a Riggatti's pizza! Pizza will be available for consumption during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.
And as always, you can expect a few surprises at this must-see screening of “Sleepless in Seattle” so be sure to spread the word by sharing this event page.
