Time to get your western on as FMASU’s Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, April 15h with a FREE 75th anniversary screening of a John Wayne-headlined epic from the great John Ford;

“Rio Grande” (1950)

When engaging in a conversation about the greatest westerns of all time, “The Searchers” is a title that comes up often. Beloved filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and John Carpenter often cite the film and its maker, John Ford, as a huge inspiration in their storied careers. For all of his accomplishments in the world of westerns, Ford was well known for his many collaborations with the legendary John Wayne. In fact, there were 14 of them in all and one of those titles was, you guessed it…”Rio Grande,” which just so happens to be celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. This epic, part of which was shot in the beautiful state of Utah, features Wayne as a cavalry officer on the Rio Grande who’s confronted by murderous Apaches. Now, Electric Film Series attendees will have an opportunity to experience this movie the way it was meant to be experienced.

Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest speaker for “Rio Grande” is Dr. Stephen Lee, a Dean at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at UTU but he’s also quite the film historian who specializes in westerns so to him the perfect guest speaker for this evening's festivities would be a gross understatement.

Be sure to arrive at our screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.

The Electric Film Series is free for the community, but donations are greatly encouraged as every cent raised will go towards covering our 2025 Electric Film Series season.
