--------------------------------------------
"Raising Arizona," a 1987 comedy classic directed by the Coen Brothers, follows the quirky and tumultuous journey of an eccentric couple, H.I. and Ed, played by Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter. H.I. is a reformed ex-convict and Ed is a police officer who longs for a child. Unable to conceive, they decide to kidnap one of the quintuplets born to a wealthy family. Chaos ensues as they try to raise the baby amidst a series of comedic mishaps, encounters with bizarre characters, and an escalating chain of events that challenge their newfound parental roles. The film is renowned for its offbeat humor, memorable dialogue, and distinctive visual style characteristic of the Coen Brothers' early work.
Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest is Alex Nibley, a veteran actor and educator who is currently assisting with a strategy that will help build the filmmaking program at SUU. As it happens, Mr. Nibley is a great admirer of the Coen Brothers so Film Series attendees can expect plenty of insight regarding the laugh out loud hilarity that is “Raising Arizona.”
Be sure to arrive at our “Raising Arizona” screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.
