MUD (2013) | Free Screening | Electric Film Series
The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, November 21st at 6 PM (Doors at 5:30 PM) with a special 10th-year anniversary screening of a moving Mark Twain-esque character-driven drama starring the great Matthew McConaughey. “Mud” (2013)

The gifted Jeff Nichols (“Take Shelter”) helmed this coming-of-age tale of two boys who help a fugitive in hiding evade his potential captors in a film that offers shades of “Winter’s Bone” and “Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.” McConaughey is in top form as the fugitive in question but it’s Tye Sheridan who leaves the biggest impression as one of the boys looking to protect him. Nichols had already proven himself as an independent filmmaker on the rise in the 2000s but he managed to truly come into his own with “Mud,” a movie that Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers calls “A thing of bruised beauty.”
Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest this month is local filmmaker and film enthusiast, Jeff Sanders. Sanders has been an admirer of Nichols dating back to the filmmaker’s earliest efforts (see “Shotgun Stories”) making him the perfect guest for this screening.
Be sure to arrive at the “Mud” screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.
