About the Event

MONSTER HOUSE (2006) | PG | Free Screening | Electric Film Series

In this beautifully animated monster-centric tale, a trio of kids in their early teens discover that the house just up the road might actually be much more than your standard suburb-set abode. Directed by the gifted Gil Kenan (who just wrapped on a brand new “Ghostbusters” movie), this creative movie proves to be a wonderful throwback to the youthful adventure films of the 80s (think “The Goonies” and “Explorers”) and it’s the kind of movie that would ultimately help pave the way for the likes of “Super 8” and “Stranger Things.” In addition to stellar animation and a high-energy plot, “Monster House” benefits from an outstanding cast of vocal players as well as an infectiously lovable spirit that couldn’t be any more appropriate for this time of year.

Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest for “Monster House” is Nate Snow, a much-beloved UTU Film Professor who, in addition to specializing in film history,  also just happens to specialize in animation. What’s more, he’s a “Monster House” fan making him the perfect special guest for this very special screening.

Be sure to arrive at the “Monster House” screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.

On a final note, don’t forget to spread the word about the 2023 Electric Film Series! We couldn’t be anymore excited about our final three screenings of 2023!

We hope to see you all there!
