About the Event

The Electric Film Series returns to the Electric Theater on Tuesday, July 16th at 6 PM (Doors at 5:30 PM) with a deep cut from one of the most beloved filmmakers of all time;  “Duel” (1971)

--------------------------------------------

Before the legendary Steven Spielberg went on to make his theatrical feature-length directorial debut with “The Sugarland Express,” he’d cut his teeth on a handful of t.v. shows including “Columbo” and “Night Gallery.” Eventually, in 1971, he’d terrify viewers with the tense thriller, “Duel.” While this Hitchockian gem about a salesman (convincingly played by Dennis Weaver) playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with an 18-wheeler while on a business road trip, had a theatrical run in the UK, it served as a much-watched t.v. movie here in the U.S. “Duel” certainly presented its now-iconic director as a major talent to watch for and in many ways, this outstanding movie is the precursor to Spielberg’s 1975 seminal killer shark movie, “Jaws.” Just substitute that man eating great white with a massive semi-truck piloted by a phantom driver. Now, Electric Film Series attendees will have the rare opportunity to see this beloved (and undeniably intense) t.v. movie on the big screen. Don’t miss it!

Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest for this particular screening is TBA so keep an eye out for updates.    Be sure to arrive at our “Duel” screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.

We hope to see you all there!
