Before the legendary Steven Spielberg went on to make his theatrical feature-length directorial debut with “The Sugarland Express,” he’d cut his teeth on a handful of t.v. shows including “Columbo” and “Night Gallery.” Eventually, in 1971, he’d terrify viewers with the tense thriller, “Duel.” While this Hitchockian gem about a salesman (convincingly played by Dennis Weaver) playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with an 18-wheeler while on a business road trip, had a theatrical run in the UK, it served as a much-watched t.v. movie here in the U.S. “Duel” certainly presented its now-iconic director as a major talent to watch for and in many ways, this outstanding movie is the…
