AIRPLANE (1980) Free Screening - 2023 Electric Film Series

There are laugh-out-loud comedies and then…There is “Airplane!” A raucous, rapid fire, laugh-per-second comedic masterwork from the zany trio that is Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker, and David Zucker. This unforgettable parody takes aim at the little seen 1957 movie, “Zero Hour” and for all its manic laughs and pitch-perfect timing, “Airplane!” is most known for its insane all-star cast. Said cast includes the likes of Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, and the forever lovable Leslie Nielsen. What? You’ve never heard of Leslie Nielsen? Shirley, you can’t be serious! Beyond that, “Airplane!” features the wonderful pairing of Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty as ex-lovers who must endure one hell of a plane ride. In short, this movie has far too many iconic moments to name is a measly little plot synopsis so I won’t even try. Only to say, if you’re looking for a good laugh on July August 15th, you won’t want to miss this!

Speaking of laughs, while “Airplane!” will provide enough gags to keep you in hysterics for days, attendees are in for a bonus treat as St. George’s very own So U Comedy Theater will be on hand to provide even more laughs in the form of a comedy improv set you won’t soon forget! Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings, we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest for “Airplane!” is So U Comedy Theater’s very own Greg Belnap! Meaning, we’ll be following up an evening full of laughs with even more laughs. All the more reason to attend!

Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie.
