2024 NEW YEAR EDITION OF THE GUERILLA SHORTS SHOWCASE

In late January, Utah-based filmmakers of all ages and all skill sets were given specific criteria and a limited amount of time to put together 6-minute short films using any resources available to them. In honor of The Utah Film Commission’s Celebration of 100 Years of Film and Television in Utah, we opted to build said criteria around this celebration. Participants in this challenge were given 6 categories to choose from. Additionally, filmmakers had to include at least one specified line of dialogue in their 5 to 6 minute short film project. In keeping with the Utah Film Commission’s epic celebration, all lines of dialogue were inspired by films filmed in our breathtaking state over the last 100 years.

Ultimately, we had 20 filmmaking teams sign up for this Challenge. No telling how many of these teams will complete their projects (the deadline is March 4th), but we do not doubt that all of the finished projects will bring the magic in a big way.

FMASU’s Guerilla Showcase event will take place on Saturday, March 16th at the Electric Theater. All filmmakers who completed their projects will have the unique opportunity to experience their creative offerings on the big screen in front of what we trust will be an enthusiastic crowd cheering them on.

Cash prizes and plaques will be handed out to the strongest films of the bunch alongside an Audience Choice award. That's right! All in attendance will have an opportunity to get in on the action by voting for their favorite short. Therefore, be sure to bring all of your family and friends in a showing of support to our amazingly creative local filmmakers! On a final note, the first-place winner will have a premiere slot during the upcoming Desertscape International Film Festival.

The Guerilla Short Challenge has been going strong since 2005. It's a wonderfully creative outlet for storytellers. We ask that you all be a part of the magic on March 16th.

Tickets for the Guerilla Showcase just went on sale at a steal of a price! Only $10 for adults, $5 for children (3-11 years), and $25 for a special group pass (maximum of 5.)
