THE GUERILLA FILMMAKING CHALLENGEs:
The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge has been a St. George staple since October 2005. The Challenge was created as a springboard for filmmakers of all ages and all skill sets. Storytellers are given a theme and a limited amount of time to create a short film using any resources available to them. These projects are then shared with an audience in a theatrical setting. The Challenge serves as quite the unique creative outlet, but more importantly, it is both educational and entertaining for storytellers and viewers alike. The Challenge is held 3 times per year: Summer (as part of an epic summer movie preview), Halloween (as part of our annual Horror-Fest spooktacular), and Christmas (as part of our Merry Movie Christmas local charity event.) The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge is essentially the cinematic equivalent of community theater.
SOUTHERN UTAH'S FILMMAKER SPOTLIGHT:
Southern Utah's Filmmaker Spotlight is a curated collective of films produced in the state of Utah and presented in a theatrical setting. The goal is to give filmmakers a platform to share and discuss their work so that may grow as artists. Typically, the Spotlight is comprised of films and storytellers in the Southern Utah area, but we have invited a handful of filmmakers from the Salt Lake City area as well. Southern Utah's Filmmaker Spotlight is held anywhere from 1 to 3 times per year.
THE DESERTSCAPE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL:
If The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge represents tier 1 (a stepping stone) and Southern Utah's Filmmaker Spotlight represents tier 2 (a platform for Utah-based storytellers to showcase their work), then The Desertscape International Film Festival represents tier 3 ( an epic celebration of film as a universal art form.) DIFF enjoyed its inaugural outing in June 2018, and through the gracious aid of the city and community support, it should emerge as a Southern Utah staple for many years to come. DIFF certainly prides itself on the work of Utah-based storytellers, but it is also a champion of filmmaking talent from all around the world. In the end, DIFF's primary goal is to educate, entertain, and enlighten attendees through the culturally expansive nature of cinema.
youth filmmaking mentorship:
The Youth Filmmaking Mentorship is a versatile program, specially calibrated to expose, inspire, and equip students of cinema. Graduates will be prepared with fundamental knowledge and skills requisite to entering the vast and ever-changing film industry.
