The Electric Film Series continues at the Electric Theater on Tuesday, November 15th, at 6 PM (Doors at 5:30 PM) with a screening of what is, arguably, one of the all-time great remakes;
“True Grit” (2010)
--------------------------------------------
The Coen Brothers are held in very high regard in most cinematic circles. With celebrated efforts such as “Raising Arizona,” “Fargo,” and “No Country For Old Men” tucked firmly under their belts, some folks tend to forget that back in 2010, this dynamic auteur duo put their own spin on a property made famous by legendary cowboy, John Wayne. In this authentic western throwback, a 14-year-old (wonderfully played by then-newcomer Hailee Steinfeld) enlists the aid of a hard-drinking (and mumbling) lawman (played by an unforgettable Jeff Bridges) in an effort to bring the outlaw who murdered her father to justice. When penning his review back in 2010, famed film critic Roger Ebert had this to say about the Coen Brothers and their take on “True Grit”; It’s as if these two men, who have devised some of the most original films of our time, reached a point where they decided to coast on the sheer pleasure of good-old straightforward artistry. This is like Iggy Pop singing, “My Funny Valentine,” which he does very well. So let me praise it for what it is, a splendid western.
FMASU’s screening of “True Grit” (2010) will include an intro and post-screening discussion led by a special guest (TBA.) Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and leave an optional donation. This donation will get you a delicious menu item from Riggatti's to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie. On a final note, don’t forget to spread the word by sharing this event page!
