About the Event

The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge returns for a highly anticipated 2022 summer edition. This challenge is designed for filmmakers of all ages and skills sets in the state of Utah. Whether you’ve made a film before or not, this is a terrific outlet for storytellers.

On April 29th at 7 PM (MST), right here on this event page (and at FMASU.com), we'll post a link for registration. Once you register and pay the submission fee, we’ll email you the rules and regulations along with the topic sign-up sheet. Filmmaking teams will have just over a month to put together a 5-minute short film utilizing their given topic and any resources available to them.

Those who register and pay the fee by 11:59 PM (MST) on Saturday, April 30th, will receive an extra 60 seconds towards their film running time. Additionally, if you want a specific topic off the list, you'd be well-advised to sign up the moment registration opens because signups for each topic will be limited. More specifically, there will be 10 topics in total with 3 signup spots available per each topic.

Again, keep in mind that topic signups will be first come, first serve. Translation; The quicker you register, the better the chances of you picking your desired topic. (Please, no topic trading.)

The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge has been going strong in Southern Utah since 2005. For veterans, it's a great way to keep the creative juices flowing and for novices, it's the perfect creative avenue to get your feet wet.

The submission fee is only $35 per film. This is extraordinarily inexpensive when stacked up against other filmmaking competitions of this nature from around the country. Putting it into perspective, if you have a team of 7 storytellers setting out to make a short, that breaks down to only $5 per person.  All short films created for the challenge will be presented in a live theatrical setting on the evening of Friday, June 10th at The Electric Theater. Tickets for the Guerilla Showcase will go on sale on April 29th.

There will be cash prizes awarded to the strongest guerilla shorts of the bunch and what's more, the 1st place winner will screen at The Desertscape International Film Festival, running from June 22nd-25th.

Additionally, each paid guerilla submission will come with one free ticket to the June 10th Showcase event as well as an 4-day screening pass to Desertscape (this pass is for screenings only.)

Again, the 2022 Summer Edition of the Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge registration will go live on this event registration page on Friday, April 29th at 7 PM (MST.)

Register and pay the fee by Saturday, April 30th at 11:59 PM (MST), and you'll receive an extra 60 seconds towards your project running time and you'll also have a potential shot at picking the listed topic of your choice.

If you love films and the magic of storytelling, then the Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge is for you!
